Tips & Best Practices
Learn expert tips to enhance your Album3D experience.
Organizing Large Photo Collections
- Create separate albums for different events or themes (see Albums & Slides)
- Use descriptive names for albums and slides (see Albums & Slides)
- Use descriptive folder and group names when importing images (see Importing Images)
- Tag photos with clear keywords during import for easier searching later (see Importing Images)
- Keep related photos in the same album (see Albums & Slides)
Optimizing Performance
- Use appropriate quality settings for your system (Main Menu → Quality)
- Close unnecessary applications
- Regularly run project cleanup to avoid files no longer in use (Main Menu → Clean up project)
Sharing Projects with Others
- Create packages (
.album3d) instead of sharing multiple project files (such as.album3d-x,src, andmediafolders; see Project Management) - Include source images if recipients may edit or view in the highest quality (see Importing Images)
- Test packages (
.album3d) before sharing - Provide viewing instructions
Backup Strategies
- Save projects to multiple locations
- Use cloud storage for important collections
- Create packages for archival purposes (Main Menu → Save; see Project Management)
- Keep source images separate (see Importing Images)
Keyboard Shortcut Mastery
- See Navigation & Controls for keyboard shortcuts, mouse controls, and touchpad gestures.
Advanced Tips
- Experiment with different view types
- Customize UI control sizes (Main Menu → More... → USER INTERFACE: SIZES).
- Use the Auto-Load ONE option with Original or Project Source Files (or Project or Original Source Files) (Info top-left corner toolbar → Tools icon → SOURCE FILE LOAD OPTIONS) so that, whether you chose Copy Source Files or Save Original File Paths in the import dialog, the correct source image is automatically loaded when you select a slide.
- If you decide to use Copy Source Files when importing into a project, stick with it for all future imports into that project.
- Avoid importing more than ~10,000 images into a single album to reduce the risk of duplicate slides/source photos and FAT32 file system limitations.
